The Hope probe from the United Arab Emirates successfully reached Mars on Tuesday, February 9,2020. This earns the country a spot in a small group of spacefaring powers that have successfully sent spacecraft to study the fourth planet from the sun.
The UAE hopes that the mission could help answer key questions “about the Martian atmosphere and the loss of hydrogen and oxygen gases into space over the span of one Martian year”. The UAE also hopes the mission would yield key discoveries on Martian weather patterns and catalyse a new technology sector as it looks to wean its economy from oil dependence.
